Dematting Policy

I pride myself on being a caring and humane groomer…

I practice humanity before vanity. Severely matted dogs will be shaved off for their care and wellbeing. Should I be presented with a matted or neglected coat, if our opinion is that it will be kinder to shave the coat back completely, this will be done in compliance with The Animal Welfare Act 2006 ( Sec 5. – Animals are to be protected from pain, injury and suffering).

Dematting is not included in the price of the groom. There will be an extra charge for the service due to time and extra wear and tear on equipment.

When a dog’s coat is matted it may need to have a very short clip. This takes longer than a regular clip because the blades have to run below the matt very close to the skin. It may also cause irritation because the clipper blades can get very hot but we take regular breaks in order to let the blades cool to avoid burning your dog’s skin. It is also possible that we may uncover nicks, cuts or other potential problems which have been hidden by the matted hair.

When you use the services of Pimp my Pooch, you are agreeing to the following terms:

Pimp my Pooch cannot be held liable for any after-grooming effects of matt clipping procedures or problems uncovered on a badly matted, neglected coat.

These could include, but are not limited to, the following:
Itchiness, skin redness or self-inflicted irritations/abrasions from excessive rubbing.

Please be aware that there is a much higher risk that the dog’s skin could be nicked with the clippers as I have to get the blade underneath the matt in order to remove it and although I will make every effort to avoid it, it does occasionally happen that the skin is nicked.

Once your dog has been shaved, we can work together to agree a plan going forward, to ensure the matting does not happen again.

I highly recommend brushing your dog daily if they tend to become matted. This will help to avoid dematting with clippers.

Faqs

Why is it important to have my dog groomed regularly?

Regular grooming prevents matting, ensures your dog’s coat and skin remains healthy and in good condition, it aids health checks and prevents smells.

How often should my dog be groomed?

That is of course depending on the breed, lifestyle and size of your dog. Recommendation is every 4 to 6 weeks.

Why use a mobile grooming service?

Our convenient mobile service saves your time as I come to you and most importantly it minimises the stress on your dog as they remain in familiar surroundings.

Why is a 121 a good idea?

I offer a 121 session with your dog. This enables me to build a relationship, developing trust with your dog and you, the owner. This is recommended to create more familiarity and a more relaxing environment.

Will you need to use my water and electricity?

No, my van is self-contained, and I take away all waste.

Can I come with my dog into the van?

Unfortunately not. I will collect your dog, have a chat to finalise the details that we will have already discussed and once your dog is ready, I will return them to you, looking and smelling fantastic.
